Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major health problem in Indonesia whereas globally, Indonesia is still on the top of the list of high TB burden countries – the second largest contributor to TB cases in the world. Thus, under the National Strategic Plan for TB Year 2020–2024, Indonesia aims to accelerate tuberculosis (TB) elimination by 2030 and to end by 2050, yet up to this point still faces challenges in surveillance, prevention, and case management. Preventive measures have shown a slight increase in 2023, but still fell short of the national target.
USAID PREVENT TB was launched in 2022 to support the Ministry of Health in developing an evidence-based TB preventive treatment (TPT) communication strategy. Funding was awarded to Yayasan Project HOPE in a consortium with the sub-awardees Yayasan Lentera Kesehatan Nusantara (LKN), Jaringan Indonesia Positif (JIP), and Project HOPE International (PH Int’l), who will have implemented the strategy targeting household contacts, People Living with HIV, healthcare workers, and cadres.
Under the project, Jalin was appointed by Yayasan Project HOPE to USAID PREVENT TB in providing technical assistance on behavior change communication program, which include conversion of the selected proven communication theory into a strategic and comprehensive, reasonable, and feasible strategic communications approach at national and sub-national contexts where USAID PREVENT TB is operating. The few accomplishments were, work plan along with its milestones, Rapid Intervention packages, and comprehensive SBC activity/work plan targeted at enhancing TPT coverage among key vulnerable groups in the program.
