Under the guidance of a kyai, the students (santri) study and reside in a dormitory. The goal of the establishment of these schools is to create an individual who is noble, sincere, self-organized, implements a healthy lifestyle, and true to his\/her own country. Until now, there are about 323,300 Santri in East Java alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">East Java province has the third largest number of boarding schools with more than 4,450 pondok pesantren, in indonesia. With high number of Santri and their close quarters in the schools living arrangements, Pondok Pesantren can pose a problem for the spread of the COVID-19 virus because students gather in one room, for sleeping, eating, and studying. Therefore, special attention must be paid to these boarding schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Breakthrough ACTION for COVID-19 project supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), initiated a\u00a0 vaccination education movement for Santri and communities in and outside of boarding schools. This initiative was taken together with the district health office, community health centre, and Fatayat NU (Islamic Organization) in Pasuruan District. The education and vaccination for COVID-19 activity was carried out for Santri, teachers, pesantren and communities surroundings the Pondok Pesantren who have not yet completed the vaccination dose.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pondok Pesantren Al-Yasini, was a pioneer and became the first to launch the movement of COVID-19 Vaccination for the Santri. More than 150 people attended the launch on July 22nd, 2022. The COVID-19 Community Engagement (CE) Kits were introduced and demonstrated by religious leaders and staff of the community health centres. They explained to the audience the importance of how vaccines can help protect the community from COVID-19.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The District Health Office also invited representatives from other sectors such as from the village community empowerment office to build partnerships towards increasing vaccination uptake in Pasuruan.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With many Pondok Pesantren communities still having doubts and fears against the COVID-19 vaccination, this movement is expected to bring impact and leverage the COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pondok Pesantren is an Islamic educational institution and has become an important part of the Indonesian national educational system serving a wide population.
